FAQs

Wild Edge Retreat Frequently asked Questions.

What is a Pavilion?

Unlike other local accommodation offerings with cabins, cottages, villas or 'retreats', Wild Edge comprises of four luxurious and private Pavilions.

Wikipedia describes a Pavilion as:

'An architectural free-standing structure sited a short distance from the main residence, whose architecture makes it an object of pleasure. Large or small there is usually a connection with relaxation and pleasure in its intended use. A Pavilion is often built to take advantage of a view'.

Each of our Pavilions certainly offer all of the above, plus our clever open plan design ensures guests fully experience our spectacular and unsurpassed views from every aspect, no matter what time of day.

How 'private' are the Pavilions?

All of our Pavilions are separate individual structures, with no common walls, and have been architecturally designed & located on the Retreat to ensure complete privacy whilst using your Pavilion. All deck and pool areas are fully screened to ensure complete privacy but take advantage of the property's amazing views... So if you forget to bring your swimming costume, it doesn't matter!

Are all of your Pavilions the same?

Our four Pavilions have almost identical layouts & appointments and each has it’s own private pool.
The main difference between them is that two Pavillions are located on the South Side of the Property - Whispering Forest & Nature’s Mist - and two are located on the North side of the property - Earth Song & Wind Spirit.

What's Included for Breakfast?

Breakfast provisions are provided for each morning of your stay and include:

A selection of local free-range eggs, bacon, sausages, mushrooms, tomatoes, breads, cereals, fruit pots, yogurt, juice, oranges, butter, maragarine, milk, a selction of Twinings teas, Nespresso coffee capsules, Beerenberg conserves, Vegemite, Peanut Butter, Tomato & BBQ sauce and condiments.

We also have Vegetarian, Gluten Free and Halal breakfast options - please advise us of your preference when making your booking.

If you have special dietary requirements please let us know prior to your arrival.

When are the Pools Heated?

Our pools are solar heated all year round which is most effective between October to May, when the sun is shining. Beyond these months the ambient temperature is generally too cold for the solar heating to have any significant effect.

Can we Smoke?

We do have a strict 'no smoking' policy for all of our Pavilions and public areas. Smoking is only permitted on the deck of your Pavilion and ashtrays are provided. Due to our unique and sensitive location, particularly during times of strong winds and the warmer months, when there may be risk of bush fires, we ask that you put some water into the ashtray to ensure butts are fully extinguished.

What time is Check-in and Check-out?

Personalised Check-in from: 3:00pm until 8:00pm

Arrivals between 8pm and 10pm incur a $50 surcharge

Arrivals between 10pm and 12 midnight incur a $100 surcharge

Arrivals after midnight by arrangement only

Check-out is 11am. We can only grant a later check-out if we don't have guests checking-in on your day of departure. Late check-outs can't be confirmed until the night before departure.

Can I use my Mobile Phone at the Retreat?

Due to our remote location, mobile reception at the Retreat is very limited. The Retreat does get some 3G coverage with Telstra and Optus. Each of the Pavilions does have a land line - so you can call loved ones to let them know you have arrived safely!

Can I use my iPad or Laptop?

Yes you can. We do have compilentary WiFi throughout the Retreat... but please bear with us if it is not always as fast as it is in the City!

Due to the location of the Retreat, we can at times have problems with our internet speed.

Are the fires 'real' or just gas?

Our fires are 'real' slow combustion log fires. They give off great radiant heat during the cooler months.

We only burn dead trees from our property that would otherwise rot. By doing this we only omit the same carbons as would be released into the atmosphere by the slow rotting process.

When do you light the fires?

Generally, the log fires are stacked and ready for use from early May until the October long weekend. These times may vary depending on the weather. Our fires are designed to give off good radiant heat, so it does need to be fairly cold outside to fully appreciate them.

Are any of your Pavilions wheelchair friendly?

Yes!!  Our Whispering Forest has no steps is wheelchair accessible from our Boardwalk and has handrails in the shower and bathroom. Whispering Forest also has an Outdoor Rockwall Shower built onto the deck that can be accessed in a wheelchair. Whilst Wild Edge is not suitable for family pets, we happily welcome legitimate Service Animals and Guide Dogs. Please call us to discuss the options for Whispering Forest.

Can I bring my pet to the Retreat?

Unfortunately, due to the large number of wildlife who visit the Retreat on a daily basis, Wild Edge is not suitable for family pets. We do happily welcome legitimate Service Animals and Guide Dogs. Our Whispering Forest Pavilion is wheelchair accessible and has handrails in the shower and bathroom. Please call us to discuss the options should you want to bring your Service Animal or Guide Dog to the Retreat.

Do all of the Pavilions have Bi-Fold Doors?

Whispering Forest and Nature's Mist have Bi-Fold doors, but due to past misuse of the Bi-Folds we have had to lock the main section closed. Only the end section can now be opened as a french door.

Earth Song and Wind Spirit do not have Bi-Folds but have large sliding doors.

Do you Service the Pavilions Daily?

As we respect our Guest’s privacy, we do not provide a daily service of your Pavilion. If during your stay you require fresh towels, other Guest amenities or extra breakfast provisions, they can be provided upon request. Due to the remoteness of the Retreat, we are dependant on the heavens for our water supply. We do want you to enjoy our facilities but also please consider your water usage when it comes to requesting extra towels.

What kind of Cars are suitable to travel to the Retreat?

From Narone Creek Road to the Retreat you will be driving on unsealed roads (approx 5.2km). The roads are suitable for both conventional and 4 wheel drive vehicles but Guests should drive with due care and slower than on sealed roads. While a number or our Guests do arrive in sports cars and lowered vehicles, we would advise Guests travelling in such vehicles to pay particular attention to their speed and any dips in the road.

What is your Cancellation & Refund policy?

A fee of $100.00 will apply to any booking where it is either cancelled, or the dates of the booking are amended within any period over 30 days prior to arrival.
For bookings cancelled between 15-30 days, 50% of the total cost will be charged. A $100 administrative fee will apply in lieu of the 50% charge if the Pavilion is able to be re-booked.
For bookings cancelled or dates changed between 0 and 14 days, there will be a 100% charge of the total booking if that booking cannot be re-filled. The $100 fee will still apply to cancellations or changes to the booking when the Pavilion is able to be re-booked.
In the case of a 'no show', 100% of the accommodation tariff will be forfeited
